Date: February 2nd

On this day it is a tradition in Casariche to prepare a special bread in the shape of a “rosca” accompanied by a coloured ribbon from which hangs a medal with the image of Saint Blas. Then, this bread is taken to the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación in large baskets to be blessed in honour of the saint. Everyone eats “roscas” on this day.

However, the celebration of this festivity involves preparations that go beyond the day of Saint Blas. Days before this date, the citizens gather wood and branches that will be used to light the fire. On the night of the 2nd of February, the inhabitants of Casariche set fire to huge bonfires that are scattered throughout the town. Around these conflagrations, neighbors, families and friends are gathered to commemorate this day.
